Diego Hedez is a Cuban-born trumpeter and composer bringing a bold, modern voice to contemporary jazz, Afro-Cuban music, and free improvisation. Born in Remedios, Villa Clara, Diego began his musical journey at just nine years old, later studying at Cuba’s prestigious National School of Arts, where he developed a deep foundation in trumpet, composition, bebop, Cuban rumba, and Afro-Cuban jazz. His sound is rooted in the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean and Latin America while pushing forward into adventurous, boundary-expanding improvisation.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Blake is the son of acclaimed jazz violinist John Blake Jr. and began playing drums at age 10, developing his voice within the city’s rich jazz tradition before going on to study at William Paterson University,
Known for his versatility and commanding presence behind the kit, Blake has performed and recorded with some of the most influential names in jazz, including Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Tom Harrell, Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Kenny Barron, Roy Hargrove, and the Mingus Big Band. As a bandleader, his acclaimed Blue Note releases Homeward Bound, Passage, and My Life Matters showcase his powerful compositional voice, emotional depth, and ability to bring together rhythm, melody, family legacy, and social consciousness through music.
