John Lang: Finger Poppin’ A Horace Silver Tribute

Bassist John Lang offers a distinguished resume in performance, arranging and composition. Lang is most recognized in New York as a straight-ahead bassist. He hosted the Burgundy Wine Jazz Duets Series for 8 years in the early 2000s, featuring such modern-days stars as Saul Rubin, Ehud Asherie, Kris Kaiser, Yotam Silberstein, Jeremy Manasia, Nat Harris, Vito Dieterle, Larry Ham, Tardo Hammer, Michael Moore and Randy Napolean. Lang’s quintet has performed at Smalls, The Jazz Forum, Fat Cat, Little Branch, Times Square Café, The Hawaiian Tropic Room and Toons.

Austin Ford Band
Thursday July 10th
Austin was a two-year member, arranger, and composer for the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band during his time at University of North Texas. He has had the opportunity to perform with world-renowned artists such as Maria Schneider, Gary Smulyan, Regina Carter, Tom Harrell, and Jason “JT” Thomas of Snarky Puppy.
Austin now holds a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied under the tutelage of Ingrid Jensen, Jon Faddis, Scott Wendholt, and others. He regularly performs around the New York City at various venues.
In the past few years, Austin has received several prestigious accolades. Some of these include being a top 5 finalist in the 2021 ITG Carmine Caruso International Trumpet Competition, placing second in the 2021 ITG Ryan Anthony Memorial Trumpet Competition, and winning the 2021 U.S. Army Blues solo competition.

Jeb Patton Trio Featuring Steve Davis
Friday July 11th
Described as both a “young phenom…on piano” and an “absolute great,” Jeb Patton has earned a well-regarded reputation in the international jazz community. The multi-talented Patton is known as a “player of great expression” and “not one to tread the predictable,” as well as a “simpatico accompanist” for The Heath Brothers, an “innovative” arranger, and one who “cuts…[an] impressive swath on his composition, ‘Hanna’s Mood,'” a tribute to his late teacher, Sir Roland Hanna.
Career highlights include performing at the Opening Nights of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jimmy Heath’s 75th Birthday Celebration, as well as at Jimmy Heath’s 90th Birthday Celebration at Jazz at Lincoln Center at the Kennedy Center. Patton joined Antonio Hart at the National Visionary Leadership Project Gala and Awards Dinner. As protégés of Jimmy Heath, the duo performed a medley of all Jimmy Heath compositions in honor of Heath being named a Visionary in the Performing Arts. Other memorable performances include Jazz at Lincoln Center, Duo Series with Percy Heath in the Stanley Kaplan Penthouse.

Mark Whitfield Jr. Trio

Mark Whitfield II has been fortunate to be surrounded by music since he was a child. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, in the spring of 2011, Mark moved back to the NYC area, attended Manhattan School of Music for a semester until joining alto saxophonists Myron Walden and Kenny Garrett’s respective bands while still playing around the New York jazz scene. In February 2013, Mark had the pleasure of recording with Kenny Garrett on his Grammy nominated album, PUSHING THE WORLD AWAY. While still playing with Myron, and subbing with countless other names in the jazz world, Mark filled in on a gig with Sean Jones in the Summer of 2014. A couple months later, Mark joined Sean Jones’ band and has since been fortunate enough to perform with the likes of Orrin Evans, Wallace Roney, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Aaron Goldberg, Christian Scott, Tia Fuller, Charnett Moffett, Terence Blanchard, Brian Jackson, Nicholas Payton, Chico Freeman, Manuel Valera, Wayne Escoffery and Jeremy Pelt amongst many others in jazz. Mark is now a mainstay in the NYC jazz scene while traveling around the world and USA with Sean Jones, Brian Jackson, Black Art Jazz Collective, Manuel Valera, Orrin Evans, Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton and others. Mark is an endorser of Canopus drums.

Lance Bryant Big Band
Friday July 18th
Saxophonist, arranger and vocalist Lance Bryant performs in the New York/New Jersey area. He received his formal music education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied saxophone, composition and arranging. After moving to New York City in the mid. 1980s, In 1990 Lance began his decade-long relationship with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and in 1993 became the Orchestra's Musical Director and Principal Arranger. Lance also made his film debut in Spike Lee's Malcolm X and traveled extensively with Phyllis Hyman, Jon Hendricks, Pete "LaRocca" Sims, James Williams and others.
Lance was selected as an on-stage musician for the Broadway production of the musical review Swing!, which received six Toni nominations. Throughout his music career, Lance's talents as an arranger, composer, saxophonist and vocalist have been featured on many projects like: For the Love of Jazz on Mojazz Records (Lionel Hampton), Dem Bones and Simply Natural on MaxJazz Records for Grammy nominated vocalist Carla Cook, Swingin' Away for the George Gee Swing Orchestra, and more recently on drummer Yoron Israel’s latest release, Visions, the Music of Stevie Wonder.

Sparni Plath Quartet

Sparni is a multi-instrumentalist from Staten Island, NYC. An accomplished jazz vibraphonist, having studied under vibraphone legend Steve Nelson and performed with jazz greats such as Bobby Watson, Dick Griffin, and Arturo Sandoval, at the heart of all of Sparni’s musical endeavors is a mission to blend various styles of music, while authentically honoring the histories and cultures behind them. Sparni has amassed a small but dedicated local following for hosting cross-genre jam sessions, where rappers freestyle over jazz standards or jazz musicians solo on boom-bap beats during rap cyphers. They can be found gigging frequently in New York City and North Jersey, playing various jazz bars with their jazz trio, as well as in the underground rock circuit as the drummer for artists Emerson Hill and Golder. In addition, Sparni has done session work as a drummer or producer for underground acts such as Calyx, Hills to Height, Jack Powers, Sama the God, Caco, MCP, Lucky Spirit and the YouTube show Lil Garage Live, where their performance of “Running Away” by Roy Ayers garnered over 200K views.
